How is a rug cleaned?

A rug is cleaned flat, not in a drum. Each piece is first inspected and dusted, then washed flat on both sides, brushed by hand, rinsed, disinfected and dried flat. The fringes are treated separately.

We work with Tapis Clean, specialists in professional rug cleaning for more than forty-five years. Wool, silk, kilims, oriental or contemporary rugs: the method and products are matched to the fibre and the dye.

Curtains and fitted carpets get the same care. We can come and take down your curtains and collect your rug, then put everything back once it is clean.

The Thursday round

Every Thursday, Tapis Clean calls at our shops to drop off the finished rugs and pick up the week's new ones. Turnaround times therefore differ from our other services: they depend on the first Thursday after you drop off, and we confirm them in the shop.

You may be wondering

How long does rug cleaning take?

Allow 5 to 10 days, including drying flat. We give you the return date when we collect the rug.

Can you collect the rug from my home?

Yes, in 26 municipalities across Brussels and Brabant. We collect the rug and can lay it back down once it is clean. We can also take down your curtains and hang them back up.

Do you clean silk rugs?

Yes, after inspection. Silk needs a very gentle wash and specific products; we give you a quote before we start.

How do I get pet stains and smells out of my rug?

Washing flat on both sides, rinsing and disinfecting deal with most stains and odours. Point them out when we collect the rug so we can pre-treat them.

How is the price calculated?

Per square metre, depending on the fibre. The rug is measured when we receive it and the price is confirmed before washing.

Do you offer moth protection?

Yes, as an add-on to washing, for wool rugs that stay on the floor or go into storage.
